those good things in life
it's funny how life comes in full circle sometimes.
last night was just like that.
Me and my bf attended a wedding reception for one of my oldest friends.
actually, besides my parents, he probably is the one friend
in my life that I have known the longest.
Greeny and I were in the same classes every year from kindergarden to 6th grade.
We also went to the same jr. high and high school and pretty much had the same
classes as well since we were placed in the same track.
I even got to know his family over the years.
When I was 6, his father was my first dentist.
His mom used to drive us on field trips and be super
involved with our elementary school. I actually learned to
cook scrambled eggs from her.
I also knew all 3 of his sisters who were always
so kind to me.
his youngest sister was like my little sister. I remember her
as being the spunky one in the family.
Anyhow, I didn't actually expect to even be invited to the wedding but I was,
along with my boyfriend and two of my close girlfriends and their significant others.
In fact one of them actually went out with him back in elementary school.
At the reception, I got to finally meet Greeny's new partner in life.
She's just amazing as he described.
her energy really rubbed off on him.
It was just such a joy to see him be completely
him.
no holds barred. what you saw was what you got.
and the man was the happiest I have ever seen him.
homeboy was even swing dancing!
'never saw that before.
And when I told his older sister how amazed i was, she was like,
"What are you talking about? He's just throwing her around." ;)
I also got to see his whole family again.
And believe it or not, they all remembered me.
How great is that? I felt so welcomed there.
Of course, we didn't actually get to talk to Greeny much last night because
wedding receptions are just like that. But we probably got to interact with
them more than at other weddings cause it wasn't such a large venue
and the room wasn't filled with 300 people like most weddings we go to.
But the greatest thing about it was that everytime he saw us, he couldn't
stop saying how great it was that we could make it. (sigh)
now how sweet is that?
but even better, the day before while i was prepping
for my next massage client at the spa,
I got this phone call on my cell.
The number wasn't one that I recognized...well, except the area code
and then I knew.
It was my friend.
He said he had a couple of minutes to spare and just wanted
to check in with me to make sure I was coming to his reception.
*shakes head*
now, THAT was just way too thoughtful.
This is the same kid that i
made ice cream out of a can with in kindergarden,
played 4-square with (and beat a couple of times ;)),
learned an Indian dance with for our 3rd grade project,
played dodge ball with during recess,
had a crush on during 4th & 5th grades,
went to my house dance party in 6th grade (where there were only 10 people)
...and there we were watching him shuffling his feet to "Shout" along with his guests on the dance floor,
sweating like crazy from dancing all night in sheer happiness, just being himself, enjoying
his special day with his new partner in life.
...It's an amazing feeling knowing that even though
years have passed between us living completely different lives
over hundreds of miles apart,
our friendship still counts for something.
It's by far one of the best gifts I've ever gotten.
So if you're reading this, Greeny, THANK YOU.
I'm so humbled.
I'm so humbled.
