Great Surprise
so I'm at my parents' house now. bored.
but before this I went to get some ensemada from Marylou's...it's homemade and wrapped all cute..
it's way better than Goldilock's ensemada!
so anyway, while I was in my car, I noticed a guy walking towards his car wearing scrubs.
and sure enough, it was my friend, Khiet!!!
I was so happy to see him....we haven't seen eachother since 1995 or something.
It was great catching up, too...
I love when that happens! Priceless...
Good eats in Herc-Town
Anyhow, Marylou's was closed, so I settled on getting an egg mcmuffin (no cheese).
As usual, all the Pilipino old-timers were hangin' out in front of McDonald's.
That place has become a little community center for them.
'reminds me of the Philippines...my dad's province...where folks would hang around
the sari-sari store for hours.
I guess it' sort of a cultural phenomenon.
It's just great to see people getting out of seclusion and sharing their day with
others like that.
You don't always get that in the 'burbs.
After getting out of the McDonald's drive-thru, I was still craving ensemada.
I decided to go to the Pilipino store a block away to see if they had some.
I forgot that Sunshine Bakery was next door to that, so I went in there instead.
I found a jackpot...
- homemade ensemada
- homemade mamon
- their popular mango cakes
- and even palabok!
...I was in heaven. :)
I decided on getting one ensemada and one mamon to go.
then, I saw the homemade empanada...they were HUGE!
I got one of those, too. :)
The greasiness of it made me feel a little nauscious after taking a few bites,
but it was one of the yummiest empanadas ever...lots of dough. I like it like that.
The mamon and ensemada were good, too, but the ensemada at Marylou's still takes the cake!
ugh! I need to go run a mile from all that grease!
