I think I know now why I love having books around me.
I remembered that when I was a little kid, my dad would always
make time to take me to our local library.
I was reminded of this when we went to the same (but newer, nicer and bigger)
library tonight.
My bf was the one who initiated the trip, as he wanted to look
for books on photography.
I felt like a little kid again walking in there with all of these FREE books
that I could access at my leisure.
I couldn't help but have flashbacks of my childhood,
when my dad would take me here and help me look for books
on science projects i had to do, or books i needed to read
for my monthly book reading goals in 2nd grade.
Hehehe...the more books you read, the more stars you'd get on the
reading chart.
And the kids who read the most books at the end of the year, would
earn a trip to the ice cream store with our teacher, Mrs. Caldwell.
hehe...lucky me, I got to go.
most of all, it just reminded me how supportive my dad has been in my life.
This man would drive me everywhere....did anything and everything to help me with school.
man, especially that time when I almost had to withdraw from Cal cause I was on
Academic Probation.
I didn't think I could pass that semester, but my good ol' dad had enough
drive and motivation for both of us.
Man, he even pushed me to go to one of my professors to request that one of
my grades be changed from a C to a B-, just so that i would meet the required GPA.
And you know what? This professor obliged!
Then again, I really shouldn't be surprised at my dad's drive and motivation...
He grew up poor in the Philippines and made it here in america...all on his own.
Yup, that's my pops!
overload
anyhow, I think I got a little too excited
being in the library tonight.
I walked out with almost 10 books!
and they're all due in 3 weeks!
hehehe...a little overkill, huh?
It's so funny, cause I walked out with
a very diverse selection of reading:
- a book on grammar and writing ('cause i really need to work on mine!)
- a book on cover letters
- a couple of books on food...one of them is called "The Food Revolution" and looks like a really
great read. The author ties together how the way we eat in America effects our environment and
socio-politicals patterns...and how we (obviously) need to change.
- a book on pregnancy (hey, you can never start early enough when it comes to educating yourself about this....you
could literally drown in all the information you need to know to be prepared! but of course, i've probably got a good 5
or so years of prep-time left, so no need for any baby showers soon!)
- and finally...I got the 4th book of the Harry Potter series. YAY! (I was surprised that it was even available)
man, i forgot how cool the library is!
I'm actually gonna see if they have any jobs available there. hehehe!
afternoon drive
i worked on yet another cover letter and resume this afternoon.
It's for a part-time position working at this very cool massage school and center.
I knew that there would be loads of applicants to this position, so
I decided to drop off my application in person...just so that they could put a face
to my name.
You gotta do that sometimes, especially with the economy the way it is.
anyhow, it looked like a pretty neat place.
'reminded me of the massage school I graduated from.
it's also in a very quaint area on the peninsula.
i just really dug the layed-back feel of the area.
I could definitely picture myself working there.
it's the E-gene Cousins day!
despite the fact that I didn't get any full-time job offers or interviews today,
i still have to celebrate today cause:
a) I got a temp job assignment...which means I will be able to financially survive part of March AND
b) my cousin in London got another part-time job..and working with kids(her dream)!
this means that she is now on her way to makin' it on her own (along with her husband) in London.
It was cool to get AIM'ed by her this morning with the good news.
Like me, she's just tryin' to survive out there...but in a brand new country.
I can only imagine how much harder it is for her, especially with having to
adjust to a new culture and dealing with home-sickness.
It's milestones like her new part-time job offer that just make me so
proud of how far she's come along since she first arrived there in June.
Congrats again, Chi!
You deserve everything good that comes to you!!!
